Purpose

The purpose of the curriculum is to provide students with a companion guide to accompany regular class attendance. The curriculum is not intended to be a home study guide or to replace attending technique classes taught by a coach or instructor. The guide should be utilized as an aid to ensure students know what they are expected to retain during class at their current belt level. Students are encouraged to take notes to help in understanding and retention of techniques.

Goal

The goal of the Team Vaghi jiu-jitsu program is to provide students with a well-rounded, structured grappling experience rooted in effective, pressure-tested techniques while allowing room for personal growth and exploration. Students are required to learn the published curriculum, but encouraged to continue learning and absorbing information from various sources to help build their "game" to fit the capabilities of their physical abilities.

Stripe Explanation

Each belt rank requires four stripes before moving on to the next rank. Stripes have specific goals and requirements - including time in rank and a test of knowledge for the third and fourth stripes. The first two stripes are a combination of personal growth, dedication, and effort in learning proper technique.

Belt Progression

The following is a brief explanation of the belt progression used by TVNR. Listed are the typical times for progression through the curriculum for students training an average of 2-3 times per week. However, your personal dedication to training, skill level, success in competition, and team loyalty weigh in heavily in each individual's progression. Promotions are never given solely on how long a student has been training.
